The open skies and countryside of rural north Northumberland form a backdrop to this hive of arts and craft. Home to Small Axe Woodcrafts and the Friendly Garden. Jon Purkins and Pippa Willitts have developed the Friendly hound site as a rural retreat creating a haven for wildlife and a space to relax , be inspired, learn and share in tranquil surroundings.

We provide contemporary and creative workshops delivered by professional practitioners. Specialising in heritage wood crafts, herbal crafts and environmental art. Accommodation is available in the Red Lion cottage with yurt and camping options coming soon.

Our facilities include our friendly herb garden, studio space, traditional wood craft workshop and a large communal sunken fire pit. We offer rural retreats, full/ half day workshops and volunteering opportunities. We can also come to you for talks, workshops, forest school activities and events.
